Heritage House is pleased to announce that David Norwell’s illustrated memoir, A Complex Coast: A Kayak Journey from Vancouver Island to Alaska, is a finalist for the 2023 Banff Mountain Book Competition in the Adventure Travel category.
A Complex Coast is a soul-searching personal account of a young man’s 1,700-kilometre kayak journey from Victoria, BC, to Gustavus, Alaska, illustrated with whimsical watercolour maps and illustrations of local flora, fauna, and landscapes.
Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival celebrates mountain literature, film, and photography, with film screenings, guest speakers, readings, seminars, and book signings. The Banff Mountain Book Competition is a key program of the festival, which will be held from October 29 to November 6, 2023. The Adventure Travel category is for non-fiction books with a theme of travel to, and exploration of, remote and/or rugged landscapes and their cultures.
The Book Competition Grand Prize will be announced on Thursday, November 2 at the Festival and category awards will be presented to winning authors. More than $29,000 in cash is awarded annually with eight awards selected by an international jury of writers, adventurers, and editors.
