First Nation Communities READ announced the 2022-2023 shortlist on September 21, 2022, for the Periodical Marketers of Canada (PMC) Indigenous Literature Award in two categories.
We’re proud to share that Aggie & Mudgy: The Journey of Two Kaska Dena Children, written by Wendy Proverbs, has been shortlisted in the YA/Adult category.
The shortlist was chosen by a jury of Indigenous librarians from across Ontario, who stated. “these titles represent the best of Indigenous literature from Canada today.”
The final winners of the PMC Indigenous Literature Award along with the award presentation for FNCR 2022-2023 will take place during First Nations Public Library Week, October 3-7, 2022. The two selected title authors (one in the Children’s category and one in the YA/Adult category) will each receive a $5000 cash prize.
The First Nation Communities READ Award also released a brand new website, which lists all the longlisted and shortlisted titles. (We were delighted back in April to have three Heritage House books on the longlist: Aggie & Mudgy, of course, along with Little Wolf, and White Raven.)
