Doris J. MacKinnon awarded King Charles III Coronation Medal

Doris Jeanne MacKinnon, author of The Premier and His Grandfather and the forthcoming In Her Words, was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in April 2025. The award recognised Doris' dedication to Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.

Doris Jeanne MacKinnon holds a PhD in Indigenous and post-Confederation Canadian history. An independent researcher, author, and post-secondary instructor, her publications focus on Western Canadian topics that expand readers’ understanding of our diverse people and experiences.

Sharing the award news, Doris wrote, "my passion for this work stems from the privilege of supporting Indigenous women and their families, who have courageously shared their stories of strength and resilience. A heartfelt thank you to the National Association of Career Colleges for the nomination that led to this incredible recognition."
