In the spring of 1981, <b>Joyce Majiski</b> squeezed into a Honda Civic and drove from Ontario to the Yukon looking for work. The wildness of the north so captivated her that she decided to return two years later, after a round-the-world adventure, and made Whitehorse her home. Between 1984 and 2003, Majiski pursued three careers simultaneously. As a field biologist, a wilderness guide, and an artist, she spent part of the year navigating white water and leading people on long hiking trips, while observing grizzlies or being surrounded by 10,000 caribou. These experiences laid the groundwork for her art, augmented by her travel experiences, navigating streetscapes in other languages from Mexico to Spain, Morocco to Svalbard, working in printmaking studios and collaborating with other artists. An artist since childhood, Majiski has a remarkable body of life’s work, having dedicated herself full time to her artistic career since 2000. Her unique visual language of line and colour allows us to trace her artistic journey.
